Bits + Bips: Is Bitcoin Finally Being Priced on Fundamentals?

Our listener survey takes five minutes, it's anonymous, and I read the write-in answers myself. Everyone who takes it can enter a drawing for a free year of Unchained Premium or Bits + Bips Premium. Open through Sunday, October 18. — Laura When the Clarity Act stalled in Congress, the shorts expected Bitcoin to break. It dipped to $75,000 and stopped. Then came the surprise that the bill might pass after all, and Bitcoin closed its first weekly candle above its 50-week moving average in 45 weeks. Ram Ahluwalia calls it a short squeeze, and says that doesn't make it illegitimate. Chris Perkins sees a regime change, with institutions now underwriting crypto on fundamentals. Austin Campbell asks what happens if US retail, still missing from the Coinbase premium, shows up too. 👉 Visit 1inch to swap tokenized securities, crypto and more. Simple. Secure. Self-custodial.

Auto Research on Yukon with Soubhik Deb

This week, Anna is joined by Soubhik Deb , Head of Research at EigenLabs , to explore Yukon , a platform for collaborative AI-powered research. Soubhik traces the project’s origins to ECDSA, a competition launched in response to Google’s work on more resource-efficient quantum circuits for breaking secp256k1. They discuss how researchers and their AI agents build on one another’s submissions, turning traditional research into a multiplayer process that can iterate at machine speed. Soubhik explains the importance of well-defined problems and verifiers for AI-driven research, and shares Yukon’s vision for an “AI-native scientific institution” where humans and agents collaborate to accelerate discovery. Carlos Domingo: Why Tokenization Goes From Billions To Trillions (Full Thesis)

Carlos Domingo says what Robinhood issued are debt securities, and the industry is conflating three very different products under one word. He walks through all three models, explains why only one gives you actual ownership, and argues the digital assets degen audience buying them is a far smaller market than people assume. He also flags a closing window: the SEC's transfer agent proposal is open for comment until November, and unlike the Gensler era, this one is actually reading them. Plus what going public really changed, with $50 million in the bank and acquisitions on the radar. Carlos Domingo is the Founder and CEO of Securitize. The Rollup is where the leaders of digital assets and finance converge. Live from the financial capital of the world. Price moves, you're out of range, you're rebalancing at, like, 3am. 1inch Aqua lets you take a different approach. You can stack multiple positions on the same token balance instead of babysitting a dozen pools, and your tokens never leave your wallet. Your liquidity stays awake, so you can catch up on your sleep. US-based SEC transfer agent. Available on 5+ chains & via API. Solana's Historic Governance Vote — While Robinhood Invades Its Meme Coin Turf

Solana just took the most historic step in its governance history: its first real on-chain vote, where any SOL holder — not just validators — could weigh in on the network's constitution, inflation and fees.Camila Russo sits down with Nick Almond, Head of Governance at the Jito Foundation, right as that shift collides with a new threat: Robinhood's own chain moving in on meme coins, the one corner of crypto that was always Solana's. Nick breaks down how the vote actually played out — including the disinflation proposal that was decided with eight seconds left after Kraken flipped its vote — how JitoSOL swung its entire stake pool with a 13% quorum trigger, and why he still thinks Solana's shot at attracting new apps, from tokenized stocks to meme coins, is stronger than people give it credit for.Presented by Oasis — a self-custody wallet built on a 2/3 multisig. The DAO Security Fund: Turning a Historic Hack into Ethereum's Future | Griff Green

Ten years after The DAO hack changed Ethereum forever, Griff Green returns to Epicenter to discuss the next chapter: the DAO Security Fund. As a co-initiator of The DAO, Griff shares the untold story of recovering funds after the hack, why over 75,000 ETH remained untouched for years, and how its staking yield is now funding public goods for Ethereum security. The conversation also explores a provocative idea: Ethereum is incredibly secure—but still not safe for everyday users. Topics covered: 1. The inside story of The DAO and its recovery 2. Why the DAO hack may be the only hack where everyone made money 3. The DAO Security Fund and funding Ethereum security 4. Quadratic funding, grants & public goods 5. Why phishing and UX remain Ethereum's biggest weakness 6. Can Ethereum become safer than traditional banks? 7. The future of safer wallets, OpSec, and the Ethereum Economic Zone If you enjoyed the episode, don't forget to subscribe for more conversations with the builders, founders and investors shaping the future of crypto. The 'Useless' Theory Behind Modern SNARKs (ft. Gödel Prize Winner Noam Nisan)

More than 30 years ago, Gödel Prize Winner Noam Nisan helped develop a proof technique that he never expected anyone to use in the real world. At the center of that breakthrough was the sum-check protocol — an elegant technique that emerged from Noam Nisan’s early work on interactive proofs. At the time, even Nisan assumed ideas like these were far too theoretical to become practical technology. Today, sum-check sits at the heart of some of the fastest modern SNARKs, proof systems that are increasingly important to blockchains and verifiable computation. In this episode of First Principles, a16z crypto Head of Research Tim Roughgarden and research partner Justin Thaler sit down with Noam Nisan to trace the unlikely journey from theory to infrastructure. They explore how interaction and randomness changed the very definition of a mathematical proof; the deceptively simple “two into one” insight behind sum-check; the rapid sequence of discoveries that culminated in IP = PSPACE; and why Justin believes sum-check may be close to the optimal tool for building practical SNARKs. But Nisan’s career also tells a broader story about how research responds to technological change. When the web arrived in the 1990s, he deliberately left a field in which he was already a leading researcher to understand a new problem: How do you get independent actors on the internet to cooperate when they have different incentives? That question helped give rise to algorithmic game theory — and, decades later, brought Nisan back to questions around blockchain fees, token economics, and protocol design. Highlights 0:00 — Intro 1:28 — Noam Nisan and the origins of verifiable computation 2:58 — Why Noam Nisan left complexity theory 7:52 — POPcorn, distributed computing, and early blockchain-like ideas 11:10 — The birth of algorithmic game theory 16:14 — Justin Thaler discovers the sum-check protocol 25:05 — From arithmetization to LFKN 27:06 — The story behind IP = PSPACE 30:40 — Why sum-check matters for modern SNARKs 31:15 — What is a SNARK? 38:52 — The key idea behind sum-check: turning two into one 44:03 — When SNARKs went from theory to practice 46:03 — Why blockchains were the breakthrough use case 50:36 — Noam Nisan’s move into blockchain economics 56:15 — EIP-1559, transaction fees, and efficient blockspace 1:02:07 — From theoretical computer science to real-world systems 1:08:49 — Boiling down the sum-check protocol: Two become one 1:10:58 — Is the sum-check protocol optimal? About First Principles First Principles is a series from a16z crypto exploring the foundational ideas behind modern computing, cryptography, and blockchains through conversations with the researchers who developed them — and the people extending those ideas today.
