All latest episodesSeason 7, Episode 34: What if everything turns out alright?
Among the many disastrous consequences predicted of artificial intelligence is a jobs famine: widespread worker displacement that devastates the economy and brings about a second Great Depression. But that hasn't happened. In fact, the US economy is doing well and, with a 4.1% unemployment rate, operating roughly at full employment, despite other headwinds like persistent inflation. And while whether humanity is "early" in the adoption phase of artificial intelligence is debatable -- I argue that, certainly, from an exposure standpoint, AI is a familiar technology at this point -- the notion that AI has displaced large swaths of the workforce is not supported in the current data. Given the buoyancy of the economy, should we reduce the odds of that happening? We can't definitively say that it won't, of course, but we can use the data at our disposal now -- in September 2026, nearly four years after ChatGPT's launch -- to update our likelihoods. And one likelihood that I believe is underestimated, sitting somewhere between The Prosperous Society and total economic Armageddon, is that everything turns out alright. Why BoldVoice Charged From Day 1 and Ignored the Duolingo Freemium Playbook — Anada Lakra
On the podcast: scaling to $10M ARR with a team of ten, having every employee do two user interviews a week, and why their hard paywall "win" backfired. Top Takeaways: 🧪 Trial-start rate is the wrong scoreboard A hard paywall and a no-exit discount both lifted trial starts, then refunds spiked by more than the gain; judge paywall tests on net revenue after refunds, on a matured cohort. 🗣️ Every employee does two user interviews a week, engineers included Automated invites to a mixed sample of users book whoever has calendar space, so the whole team hears customers directly instead of through a PM. 💳 Charge from day one to find out who you're building for A plain $10-a-month paywall with a one-week trial at launch filtered for willingness to pay and freed the team to work on onboarding and the core product instead of pricing tests. 🧩 Mixing other apps' playbooks is the worst strategy of all Duolingo's freemium base only works because it teaches the basics of everything to hobby learners; a product for high-intent professionals should ignore that base entirely. 📅 Lead with annual to know your channel ROI the week the trial ends Annual cash lands after the seven-day trial, so payback per channel is visible immediately and can be reinvested; monthly leaves you guessing between one month and 24. 🧑💻 $10M ARR with 10 people runs on owners, one meeting a week, and everyone shipping Hire founder-type doers, hold a single Monday sync, and let AI coding tools turn the whole team, including a non-technical CEO, into builders. About Anada Lakra: Anada Lakra is the Co-Founder and CEO of BoldVoice, an AI accent and speech coach for the billion people who speak English as a second language. 274: “The Influencer Playbook: Flo, Numan & HelloFresh on the Future of Growth” BOA London 2026 panel
Today we're talking about influencer marketing - and about the point where creator content stops being a brand play and starts being a performance channel. Creator-led ads run four times better on click-through rate than the same brand's own ads. So the question is no longer whether to use influencers. It's how to scale them without losing the ROI. In this episode, we bring you a live panel hosted by Lucia Aguilar , CEO and Founder at TATAM Digital , featuring: Joanna Malecka , Partnership Director at Numan Esma Ebnu , Influencer Marketing at Flo Health Lia Darozhkina , Senior Influencer Marketing Manager at Trade Republic Stephanie Terziyski , Growth Influencer Marketing Manager at HelloFresh . The panel works through four trends. YouTube as the new TV - 13% of all US viewership and more ad revenue than Paramount, Disney, Universal, and Warner combined - and why long-form still converts for products that need explaining. Creator and partnership ads, where content boosted from the creator's own handle beats anything posted from a brand account. Regulation, with only 57% of UK paid posts tagged correctly, and how teams in health, Pharma, and banking build compliance into the brief instead of bolting it on at sign-off. And AI, from sourcing and brief writing through to forecasting campaign results, plus the case for human creators in a feed filling up with avatars. If you work in influencer marketing, user acquisition, or performance marketing, this is a practical look at where creator budgets are going in 2026 and what it takes to scale them profitably. The panel’s topics include: AI in growth teams — which tasks it already replaces, and why humans still own strategy Performance marketing's limits — why trust-driven categories like fintech need brand channels too Web-to-app funnels — near-double conversion rates and skipping the 30% app store tax Channel strategy for 2026 — fewer channels done better vs. always testing new ones Data and targeting vs. creative — where each wins, and the 96% CPA reduction story
